So one of my joys about my job is it allows me to run Linux at work. I chose Ubuntu for my workstation simply because I’ve always loved the Debian based distros and Ubuntu is stable, sexy and has a great community that I’ve loved since 2006.

Before that I was a MEPIS man, but I haven’t used it for a long time, nor would I now. Not because there’s anything wrong with it per-say, I’ve just found new love with Ubuntu.

I stick with Gnome these days because I find I can be very productive with Ubuntu’s default Debian style dual panel layout and I love the Gnome apps and the support they find with Ubuntu. I’ll probably stick with gnome-panel for a while yet as I’m still warming up to Gnome 3.

As always the customization options in Linux are amazing and I have slowly tweaked my workstation to suite my everyday needs, including custom scripts and alias that save me tons of time and even if I need to run a Windows-only app, I’ve had no issues running them with wine, even with a lot of our propitiatory software.

I have found I can be very productive at work with multiple workspaces and the added bonus of stability and security is nice. Libre-Office and Thunderbird are a blast to use over Office, I never have any issues and it always runs smooth (as to be expected). It also makes talking with our Linux servers more friendly. I generally have over a dozen apps running at once across my workspaces along with full compiz effects and have never had the system crash or hickup. I often maintain a 60 day uptime.

I’ve always loved Linux as my home OS, and getting to use it at work has been amazing. Highly recommended.

Well, I finally got an invite to Google+ (thanks Ian!). So far I like it a lot. It’s like Facebook without all those crappy apps spewing garbage in your face. The link up between other google services is also impressive. I’ll have more after I’ve used it for a while longer.

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past month you probably know about the PSN outage that lasted for 24 days. Sony is promissing all services to be restored by the 31st, but there was talk that the store would be back today, 5/24/2011. Now Sony is rejecting this report. Yeah, online play is back, but jeez, this is getting to be the craziest thing I have ever seen in the video gaming world!

Starting over

Well, I’m starting my blog back up. I want to have a place to post, I just don’t want to be expected to make a daily contribution, so I’m going to cut that idea this time. Anyway, so getting back to my interests and such ™ I bring you a link of the day! This link comes from a co-worker and lets you run a java-based PC emulator in your browser running Linux. What a great way to get some practice in!

Well, here it is. I’m going to stop adding new posts indefinitely. Between my new position at work, my wife, my friends and my regular video-gaming, I have absolutely no time to keep up with the site. I feel that my posts are diluted and uninteresting as I don’t have the time to put in the effort that a blog needs to thrive. So sorry two readers, I’m shutting down. I’ll leave the site open for access to the archives and whatnot, but there will be no further posts from now on. Sorry, and thanks for reading.

So, this is a Panasonic Toughbook. It’s a massively powerful laptop that’s also able to withstand being run over by a car. Since I’ll be doing a lot of moving around for the next couple of months, it’s my computer! Needless to say my previous boss is jealous

So, I’ve been playing Fallout since I got it. I’ve gotten about 4 hours of sleep and I can’t stop playing. The gameplay has been tweaked a bit since Fallout 3 to make it a little smoother, but nothing too intense. It’s like playing the biggest expansion for a game ever, and with a game like this, that isn’t a bad thing. Well, gotta start my new job tomorrow, so better get some sleep

Tonight is Fallout night! I’ve been waiting for Fallout: New Vegas since the day I started playing Fallout 3. It really is the perfect game. At any rate, tonight I’m heading over to Gamestop for the midnight release. NERD PRIDE!

I just noticed this while looking at my Genesis games… has anyone ever noticed that Sonic on the cover of Sonic 3 and Sonic Spinball is the exact same drawing!? I mean the Spinball version has had some smoothing and shading done, also on the full box art he has his spinning feet rather than standing still, but holy crap! I think Sega was a little low on budget for Sonic Spinball’s cover art. Now that I think about it I wonder how similar Dr. Robotnik is between the two…

***Update***

I did some digging on this and to my surprise I discovered that Sonic Spinball actually came out before Sonic 3! As a kid, I don’t recall it being that way but according to the internet Sonic Spinball was released in NA on November 23, 1993 and Sonic 3 was released 71 days later on February 2, 1994. I suppose that with the games being released so close together the art teams could have co-mingled this, but it’s still fantastically funny IMO.
